| Kansas City Royals Not Looking To Trade Billy… | |
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports notes that the rumors are circulating that the Kansas City Royals might be trying to trade Billy Butler in their quest for starting pitching. However, Rosenthal says that’s not true and adds that the move doesn’t even make any sense. He writes, “Butler has yet to hit more than 21 home runs in a season, and had the same OPS-plus as Howie Kendrick last season. Still, scouts in the Arizona Fall League continue to report that right-handed power hitters are in short supply. The minute the Royals traded Butler, they would be looking to replace him. It doesn’t make sense, not when he is signed to a club-friendly contract and still in his pre-prime.” Butler is a mixed bag for a lot of Royals fans — a guy who makes good contact and can hit, yet doesn’t deliver the middle of the order wallop that most DH/1B types can bring. Yet he’s only 25 and has been nothing but an excellent hitter on a poor Royals team year after year. Rosenthal is absolutely right that no trade involving Butler should happen. Thanks for reading! . MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 26 (UPI) — Mike Moustakas bashed a go-ahead homer and Salvador Perez drove in a pair of runs Monday in the Kansas City Royals’ 7-3 win over Minnesota. Trailing 3-1 in the sixth, the Royals scored four times to grab control of the contest. Billy Butler smacked an RBI double and came home to score the tying run on a Perez sacrifice fly, and Moustakas followed by tomahawking a pitch down the right field line for a Kansas City lead. Felipe Paulino (4-6) earned the victory with three runs on six hits over six frames, walking a pair and fanning nine. Minnesota’s Kevin Slowey (0-8) was tagged for five runs on 10 hits in a 5 2/3-inning performance. Michael Cuddyer clubbed a two-run homer for the Twins, who fell to 61-99 with their 17th loss in 20 games.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Billy Butler has been scratched from the Kansas City Royals’ lineup with the flu. Manager Ned Yost says Butler was nauseous, received an IV and was isolated from the rest of the team. Mitch Maier replaced Butler for Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. He made his first start of the season as the designated hitter. Butler is hitting .292 with 19 homers and 90 RBIs. Also, closer Joakim Soria remains sidelined with a strained right hamstring. He has not pitched since Sept. 11 at Seattle. Copyright 2011 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed. (AP) — Melky Cabrera had four hits, including a home run, and Billy Butler hit a three-run homer to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 7-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. The loss officially eliminated the White Sox from the playoffs. The Royals’ five-game winning streak is their longest since they won five straight from Sept. 7-11, 2009. Cabrera’s four-hit game matched a career high and his double in the sixth was his 40th as an outfielder – he has one as a DH. The Royals are the first team in major league history to have three outfielders with 40 or more doubles. Alex Gordon and Jeff Francoeur both have 45. Butler’s 19th home run in the sixth inning came off Mark Buehrle (11-9), who has lost five of his last six starts. (Copyright ©2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
