By DICK KAEGEL, Royals.com Bishop Ward High School of Kansas City, Kan., was one of five recipients of a fourth-quarter grant award by the Baseball Tomorrow Fund. Bishop Ward, a private inner-city school, received funding for field renovations including dugouts, bleachers, backstop padding, windscreen and an irrigation system.
The renovations will allow the high school to add a freshman team, expand its camps to low-income players and increase community use of the field. The grant was included in $230,000 given to organizations in five communities. In 2011, a total of $1.7 million was awarded to 55 communities in the U.S. and Canada. The Baseball Tomorrow Fund was formed by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association in 1999 to promote the growth of youth baseball and softball. BTF also supports the annual equipment drives at big league parks including Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. This year more than 15,000 pieces of equipment and $157,000 in cash were donated through MLB clubs. Gotta run!. Posted in royals-news | Comments Off
